Prof. Wenhui Niu

Wenhui Niu is a full professor and Ph.D. supervisor at Dalian University of Technology since 2026. Dr. Niu received her Bachelor from Sichuan University and her Ph.D. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University under the supervision of Prof. Yiyong Mai. She subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Technische Universität Dresden, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. Xinliang Feng. In 2022, she joined the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics as a Research Group Leader (PI).

In 2026, she joined the State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals at Dalian University of Technology as a member of Professor Tao Liu’s research team on “Photo-responsive Intelligent Molecular Materials”, and also leads her own independent group of “Chiral Functional Nanocarbons”. Her research focuses on the precision synthesis, property modulation, and functional applications of organic nanocarbon molecules, with particular emphasis on developing novel chiral nanocarbon systems exhibiting pronounced chiroptical responses and spin-polarization behavior, as well as exploring their potential applications in chiral electronics. The relevant research results have been published in high impact papers (as first or corresponding author) in journals including Nature Materials, Journal of the American Chemical Society (2), Angewandte Chemie International Edition (3), Chemical Science, and Accounts of Chemical Research, etc.

In 2023, she was awarded a Minerva Fast Track Fellowship by the Max Planck Society, and in 2024, she received the Arthur K. Doolittle Award from the American Chemical Society. She currently serves as an Early Career Advisory Board Member of Materials Chemistry Frontiers. As a project leader, she has led multiple research projects funded by the National Young Talent Program (2025), and the German Research Foundation (DFG), etc.
